Billing & Refund Policy

Version: 2026-10-30
Effective date: 2026-10-30

This page explains the detailed rules and procedures for billing, Credits, and refunds on the Thinkfree developer site. It applies together with the Terms of Service, Paddle Buyer Terms, and Paddle Refund Policy.

1. Payments

  • Paid plans are sold by Paddle as the Merchant of Record. Paddle processes payments, issues receipts and tax invoices, and handles refunds.

  • Thinkfree does not collect card details.

  • All payments are made in USD. Listed prices exclude tax. Before paying, you can review the final amount, including taxes applicable to your location, at checkout.

  • The Paddle Buyer Terms and Paddle Refund Policy also apply.

2. Plans and Credits

Plans

  • Free: Provided at no charge when you sign up, with Credits granted each month.

  • Pro: A monthly or annual subscription with a choice of monthly included Credit tiers.

  • You can view prices on the Pricing page and in Change plan in the Console.

Types of Credits

  • Subscription Credits: Granted each month according to your plan, including on annual subscriptions. They expire at the end of the grant period and do not carry over to the next period. Monthly Credits on the Free plan are also subscription Credits.

  • Support Credits: Credits provided at no charge through welcome offers, campaigns, coupons, or the support team. You can use them until the expiration date set when they are granted. They do not count toward the monthly usage limit.

  • Support Credits granted in connection with a specific subscription payment, such as a purchase promotion, may be reclaimed if that payment is refunded. The conditions provided when those Credits were granted apply.

  • The monthly Credits included in a paid plan already include the monthly Free plan allowance.

  • Support Credits and Credits received on the Free plan are not refundable.

Credit usage order

  • Support Credits: Those with the earliest expiration date are used first.

  • Subscription Credits

Support Credits are used first. If you have a large support Credit balance, subscription Credits for that period may remain unused and expire.

Credit deduction rules

ScenarioCredits deducted

Document opening fails0

A session ends abnormally for reasons attributable to ThinkfreeThe relevant Credits are restored

When Credits are insufficient

  • If your remaining Credits are less than the amount required, the request is not processed and no partial deduction is made. (If you have enabled paid overage, you can continue using the service up to the monthly usage limit described in Section 4.)

  • You can save and close sessions that are already open.

  • You cannot open new sessions, including read-only sessions. The API returns a limit-exceeded error and retry information, and an administrator receives a notification.

3. Billing cycles and renewals

  • Your subscription renews automatically unless you cancel it, and your registered payment method is charged.

  • Your renewal date is based on the date you paid for the subscription, not the date you created your account. If a month does not have that date, renewal occurs on the last day of that month. (For example, a subscription purchased on the 31st renews on February 28 or 29.)

  • We send renewal reminder emails 7 days before a monthly subscription renews and 30 days before an annual subscription renews.

  • Payment dates, renewal dates, and Credit grant and expiration times shown in the Console use UTC.

4. Paid overage

  • Paid overage lets you continue using the service after you have used all the Credits included in your Pro subscription. You are billed for the additional usage afterward. Paid overage is not available on the Free plan.

  • How to enable it: Paid overage is off by default. If you have an active Pro subscription with automatic card payments, you can enable it in Billing in the Console. Enabling it means you agree to be charged after use. Unpaid amounts may result in service restrictions. (See Section 8.)

  • Monthly usage limit: Up to twice your monthly included Credits. (You can use an additional amount equal to your included Credits.) Support Credits are excluded from this calculation. Once you reach the limit, you cannot open new sessions even if paid overage is enabled. You can save and close sessions that are already open.

  • Price: The price per Credit is the monthly price of your selected tier divided by its monthly included Credits. There is no separate rate table. Displayed amounts exclude tax.

Billing schedule and conditions (UTC)

SubscriptionBilling timeBilling condition
MonthlyTogether with the renewal payment on the renewal dateAccumulated overage charges of $10 or more
AnnualA separate payment on the first day of each month (UTC)Accumulated overage charges of $10 or more
  • Amounts below $10: These are not charged immediately and are carried forward to the next billing date. For annual subscriptions, any balance still below $10 at the next annual renewal is charged together with the annual subscription fee.

  • Receipts: The charge is labeled “Usage overage YYYY-MM”.

  • If payment fails: Paid overage is turned off and we notify you by email. You can enable it again after completing payment.

  • Cancellation and refunds: See Sections 6 and 7.

  • Refunds for overage payments: You cannot request these in the Console. Contact the support team. Requests are assessed under the Paddle Refund Policy.

5. Plan changes

ChangeWhen it takes effectChargesCredits
Upgrade (monthly or annual)ImmediatelyOnly the prorated difference for the remaining period is charged immediately. The amount already paid for the previous plan is not separately refunded. The renewal date does not change.Existing Credits remain available, and additional Credits are granted in proportion to the price difference.
Downgrade (monthly or annual)From the next renewal dateNo refundCredits for the current period remain available until the period ends.
Annual to monthlyFrom the next renewal dateNo refundCredits for the current period remain available.
  • An upgrade payment is a separate transaction and has its own 14-day refund request period. Upgrading does not extend the refund period for the original payment.

6. Cancellation (turning off automatic renewal)

  • You can cancel your subscription (turn off automatic renewal) at any time in the Console. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period, after which your account moves to the Free plan.

  • Cancellation stops the next renewal; it is not a refund. Section 7 governs refunds.

  • When you request cancellation, paid overage is turned off immediately. If your unbilled overage charges, including carried-forward amounts, total $0.70 or more, a payment is attempted. Amounts below $0.70 are not charged. Amounts that have already been billed and remain unpaid are not waived.

  • If payment fails, your subscription continues until the end of the current paid period, and we notify you of the failure. You can pay outstanding usage charges in Billing in the Console. We send another payment reminder email 2 hours before the period ends.

  • You can turn automatic renewal back on before the period ends. Any outstanding charges remain due, and paid overage is not automatically turned back on.

  • Any amount unpaid when the subscription ends remains outstanding. You cannot open new documents until you complete payment. You can still sign in.

7. Refunds

Request period

  • You can request a refund within 14 days of the payment date.

  • The period is calculated separately for each transaction. Subscription payments and upgrade payments are separate transactions.

Assessment criteria

  • Paddle assesses refunds under the Paddle Refund Policy and applicable local consumer law. Submitting a request does not guarantee approval, and factors such as usage may be considered.

  • Statutory cancellation periods in certain countries, including South Korea, are described in the Paddle Refund Policy.

How to request a refund

  • In Billing > Payment history, select the payment you want refunded and submit a request. Select a refund reason and add an explanation if needed. Do not include sensitive information such as card numbers, passwords, or document contents in your explanation.

  • In the Console, you can request refunds for subscription and upgrade payments in the relevant billing period. For Credit purchases and overage payments, contact the support team at support@thinkfree.com.

  • You can also contact Paddle directly using the support link on your Paddle receipt or at paddle.net.

Processing steps

  • Submitting a refund request does not change your subscription, Credits, or paid overage setting. You can cancel your request in the Console until the support team starts processing it. Canceling a refund request does not cancel your subscription.

  • When the support team starts processing your refund, paid overage is turned off and use of subscription Credits is restricted. You can continue using Support Credits, except those designated for recovery with the refund. Unbilled overage charges of $0.70 or more must be paid first.

  • If payment of overage charges fails, the refund does not proceed, the refund request is canceled, and we notify you by email.

  • If there are no overage charges, or once payment is complete, the support team submits the refund to Paddle. If Paddle approves it, the subscription is canceled immediately and your account moves to the Free plan. Unused subscription Credits granted by that payment are reclaimed. Support Credits granted in connection with that payment (for example, Credits from a purchase promotion) may also be reclaimed. Other Support Credits are not reclaimed.

  • If the refund is not approved, your subscription remains active and the restriction on using subscription Credits is lifted. You can also use Support Credits previously designated for recovery again. The support team notifies you of the result by email. Paid overage remains off, so you can enable it again if needed.

  • Refunds are processed within 14 days of approval, to the original payment method where possible. Your bank or card issuer may take longer to show the refund.

You can check progress in Payment history.

Requests after 14 days

  • As a rule, refunds are not provided after 14 days. If you contact the support team, your request will be reviewed individually.

  • Exceptions apply where a refund is required by law or the service ends for reasons attributable to Thinkfree.

8. Payment failures

  • If a renewal payment fails, we notify you by email, and Paddle automatically retries payment for a period of time. Until payment is complete, the following applies:

  • Subscription Credits are not granted, and paid overage is unavailable.

  • You can continue using the service during a grace period of up to 7 days after payment becomes overdue.

  • Day 5 overdue: We send an email explaining that document opening will be restricted in 2 days.

  • Day 7 overdue: Cloud Office document opening is blocked. You can still sign in, and you can resume use after completing payment.

  • Day 30 overdue: Your subscription ends and your account moves to the Free plan. The outstanding amount remains due, and you cannot use the service until you complete payment.

  • If a separately billed overage payment fails, pay the outstanding usage charges in Billing in the Console. Paid overage remains off until you pay.

9. Price changes

  • If we raise prices, we notify you by email of the new price, effective date, and how to cancel at least 30 days before the change takes effect.

  • We obtain your consent where required by law. If you do not consent, the increased price is not charged, and your subscription ends at the close of the current billing period.

10. Sales agreements

  • For Enterprise and Self-hosted licenses purchased through the sales team, the applicable order form or agreement takes precedence, including its payment and refund terms.
